Where are you located?
I’m located near the Ross Barnett Reservoir northeast of Jackson in Central Mississippi. I offer photo sessions within the Jackson metro area. If you’re outside this area, contact me for a travel quote. Equine sessions include up to one hour of travel outside the Jackson metro. A few times a year, I also offer pet photography sessions in the Cape Girardeau, Missouri area as well.
How does a session work?
Once you’ve checked out the session and pricing info, contact me and let me know you’re interested! I’ll give you a call to discuss the process, products, and what exactly you’re looking for in the photos. Once you’ve booked a date, I’ll send you a link to finish the process, which includes filling out more info about your pet, signing the session agreement, and payment of the Reservation Retainer. I will then send you a guide so you can be thinking about where you want the photos taken and how to prepare for the session so that everything will run smoothly on the day of the shoot. On the day of your session, I’ll work with your dog to get them used to the camera. Most dogs accept it easily, especially when healthy treats are involved! Just relax and have fun! About one or two weeks after the session, we’ll meet again (either at your home or somewhere like a coffee shop) for your Ordering Session, where we’ll view the photos, see product samples, choose favorites, and complete the ordering process. Once final payment has been received, I will deliver your gorgeous products to you in about four weeks. If you ordered a custom oil painting, that may take a bit longer, but I’ll deliver it as soon as it’s ready.
My dog can’t be trusted off leash - can you still take photos of him?
Sure! I’ll let you in on a secret - most of the dogs I photograph are leashed. At some locations, even the best-behaved dogs shouldn’t or can’t be off leash. If you don’t have complete and utter confidence in your dog’s recall, I strongly recommend keeping him on leash. I have several techniques to remove leashes during the editing process so you can’t even tell it was there!
Can you photograph my crazy/hyper/won’t-sit-still/etc. dog?
Yes! I’ve worked with many different types of dog personalities, including the hyper ones! It only takes a split second to get a great photo, so even if they move around a lot, I can still photograph them. I also have a number of tricks (and treats) to get them to look at the camera, even if only briefly. Sometimes these types of dogs take more time and patience, but that’s okay!
Where does the photo session take place?
I’ll work with you to choose a good location! Nice locations will enhance the photos, so keep an eye out for good-looking places! I can suggest some as well and will send you a guide on what to look for at booking.
What about bad weather?
If the weather is rainy, stormy, or heavily overcast, we’ll reschedule at no extra charge. With summer afternoon thunderstorms, this can sometimes take several tries! The ideal light for my style is sunny, with little to no clouds. Light overcast can work as well, or we can reschedule for a sunny day.
Can I be in the photos with my dog or horse?
Do you photograph families/children/newborns/weddings/events/etc.?
No, my focus is on pets only. I can include you in some of the photos with your pets, though! And horse sessions can also be a Senior Photo session.
Can I commission a painting of my pet?
Yes, I take a limited number of commissions each year. Oil painting sizes start at 16x20. See pricing info for commissions.
Do you work in other mediums besides oil?
I occasionally work in colored pencil for super realistic pieces and accept a handful of commissions in it. I also sometimes work in acrylic and alcohol ink, though I don’t take commissions in those mediums.
Do you sell prints of your work?
Yes, please contact me if you’re interested in ordering a print of any or my paintings, drawings, or horse photos. Many, but not all, are available as prints.
