The inspiration for this painting came from a horse I met in Spain. The instant he was turned out, he exploded into motion and was pretty much what you would call a perfect model (if spirited movement combined with those incredible Andalusian manes is what you're looking for - which I was). Eventually, he wound down and stopped for a moment when something distant caught his attention. It was a fleeting, quiet moment that broke up the frenzied energy, even if only briefly, and it, too, was worth capturing. As they say, stop and smell the roses from time to time.
